Welcome to Missouri S&T’s department of History and Political Science! You probably think of Missouri S&T as a place to study science and engineering, but we also have one of the best History and Political Science programs in the state.
We offer majors in History and History with Secondary Education, and brand new this year, a major in History with an emphasis in National Security, minors in History, Political Science, and Pre-law, and undergraduate certificates in Medieval and Renaissance Studies, Military and Security Studies, War and Society, and Science, Technology, and Society. Our graduates have gone on to successful careers in teaching (at both the high school and university level), public history (working in archives and museums), law, business, the military, and even video-game consulting.
What sets us apart from other programs in the state is our outstanding faculty who are focused entirely on undergraduate education. Unlike some universities where you will get stuck in 500-person lecture halls for many of your classes, here you will get to know your professors. Our upper-level classes generally have only around 20 students in them.
In those classes you will be able to work with some of the finest history and political science scholars in the country. We have faculty members who specialize in everything from the World Wars to Colonial America to Science and Technology history and policy to the Reformation. These faculty at the same time have among the highest teaching evaluation scores on campus and actively publish in their fields. Many of them offer opportunities for undergraduate students to assist them with their research.
So we hope you will give Missouri S&T a second look when considering studies in history and political science!
